I have been writing professionally, on a freelance basis, for more than a decade. I have written book reviews, music recording reviews, conducted interviews with artists in a variety of disciplines, composed features and essays on a range of topics (arts and culture, mainly, but also politics, technology, and current events), and produced scholarly research. From 1998 through 2006, I was a regular contributor to The Dallas Morning News. In the main, my reviews for the "Sunday Reader" (later, "ArtsSunday", now, "GuideLive") portion of the newspaper were for novels and nonfiction works on the subjects of travel, exploration and natural history. I also wrote an occasional column on the topics of the e-books and electronic publishing. During the same period, I published a good deal of music criticism and commentary, most prominently in the pages of the now-defunct publications One Final Note and Bagatellen, for which I served as Editor-In-Chief from roughly 2003 to 2005. I frequently wrote about jazz, improvised musics in general and experimental sound practive, with the occasional foray into more popular forms. Though I no longer write as actively within these disciplines, I do remain a dedicated listener, and am receptive to queries for recording reviews and such from artists, labels and editors. Please see "contact." below for additional details. I have placed fiction and poetry in a diverse array of publications, both in print and online. I am also currently at wotk on several manuscripts; for more information, see "current projects." below. I hold a BA in English, with a concentration in Creative Writing, from SMU (1994) and an MFA in Creative Writing from CalArts (2008.) My writing has been recognized by PEN USA (Texas Chapter), the Summer Literary Seminars committee, and Pushcart Press. I am available for freelance assignments. If you would like to send a query or learn more about my areas of expertise, rates, etc., please see "contact." below for more information. What follows is a selected list of my publications, from the most recent to the (for lack of a better term) most historical. A comprehensive list of my publications is available upon request.
